Stephenie Meyer, a name that will live long for her portrayal of Vampires. And of course Summit Entertainment, the creators of the movies based on her books.
Wow what can I say.
This movie is just wow.
And by wow I mean “What the hell are they thinking of?”
OK I am not a huge fan of Vampire movies, we tend to be portrayed as mindless killing machines (ok we ARE killing machines but only for food…well mostly for food) who get slaughtered left and right by some hero or heroine (thank you Buffy) but at least we are portrayed as being the upper end of the food chain.
But this “Edward” character. He confuses me. He falls in love with Belle, a human female. A similar analogy would be a human falling in love with a cheese sandwich. OK that may be a bit extreme, Perhaps like a human falling in love with a beef cow. (yes I have seen Jerry Springer….I know it does sometimes happen with sad damaged humans) On that thought, would that make Edward sad and damaged? Yes, and he should get help.
I get the whole drinking animal blood rather than human blood, a legitimate life choice I guess, like humans that eat plants rather than being omnivores. It may not be the best, but if your out in the middle of nowhere, to feed on the local population. You don’t want a herd of humans turning on you. (save the human blood for Christmas dinner!)
Now on the Sunlight issue. OK I have to say that the whole ”Vampires turn to dust in direct sunlight” (or the Blade version Vampires don’t like UV light) is bogus. Really and for true we do go out in sunlight. Most of the time with sunglasses on, cos well our eyes are better adjusted for night time and bright sunlight can be painful. What we don’t have is sparkley skin. What would be the point of that? We are predators for Lilith’s sake. We do not want to stand out and frighten the prey away! We want to blend in so we can get closer, and closer and closer till there is no escape.
OK thats just part of my rant about Twilight. I have a date tonight so I gotta go get ready.
Love to all my Sisters and Brothers. (ooh how new age!) and for any prey humans that read this? Sassy and I may just be paying you a visit.
